Programs & Descriptions

Traditional Camp

Each day is packed with fun, friends, and learning new skills. Enjoy any of the many activities offered like archery, climbing, canoeing, swimming or fishing!  Your week will include all-camp games, campfires every night, and activities with your cabin. Each camper will also experience an exciting camping overnight.  Campers end their day in the cabin sharing stories of the day’s adventures and planning for tomorrow.

Summer Sampler

Summer Sampler is a 3-day, 2-night action-packed adventure for the first-time camper. Try a little of everything that camp has to offer, including swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, archery, songs, make your own ice cream and much more. You’ll have so much fun you’ll be excited to come back next year!

Horse Camp

Our Horse Camp is perfect for beginner riders! Campers learn basic riding techniques such as mounting and dismounting, controlling the horse, plus horse grooming, care and safety. Weather permitting, campers will spend two hours each day at the horse corral for riding instruction. The remainder of the day is spent enjoying traditional camp activities.

Skateboarding Camp

Experience zero-gravity while practicing airs, spins, grinds, and grabs! Bring your own board, helmet, and pads to Icaghowan. Campers will spend 21⁄2 hours each day with our skateboarding staff on our camp street course. The rest of the day will be spent in traditional camp activities. One day will be spent trying new skills at an off-site skate park.

Two-week Camp

More than twice the fun! This two-week session gives campers the chance to try more activities, participate in the special middle-weekend programs, and get to know their counselors and fellow two-week camper cabin mates better.

Teen Extreme

Can’t decide what adventure to try this summer? No problem! Teen Extreme Adventure at Icaghowan is a fast-paced, fun adventure program combining a variety of exciting outdoor activities. The group will participate in programs like rock climbing at Taylors Falls, kayaking on Lake Superior, canoeing on the St. Croix River and an overnight camping trip on the North Shore!

Pioneer and Challenger River Canoe Trips

During a river canoe trip, adventure campers experience the challenge of navigating river waters and living in the outdoors. Campers start with 2 days of in-camp skills, safety training, trip preparation, and then shift to 10 days of canoeing on a river in Northern Wisconsin, covering 100 – 125 miles! Trips are single-gender and are led by trained Icaghowan staff.

Leadership Development Program | Junior Leaders

The Junior Leaders program is for campers who want to learn and expand their leadership skills. The program focuses on individual leadership style investigation, identification and implementation. In addition to your fun activities at camp, your group will spend 4 days on a canoe or backpacking trip. All JL programs are single-gender and are led by experienced Icaghowan staff.

Work Leadership Camp | Counselor in Training

The Work Leadership Camp program is designed for campers to develop and practice leadership skills in a residential camp setting. The first part of the session will focus on leadership, service-learning, and team building.  The next phase will be spent on a 6 or 7 day river canoe and camping trip developing trail and group leadership skills. The final phase is spent applying their new skills as a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) at Camp Icaghowan. CITs will be assigned to a senior staff member who will mentor them during this session.  Space is limited to 12 campers per session, which fill fast.

Family Camp

Bring your entire family to beautiful Camp Icaghowan! Enjoy a wonderful family trip – sleep in cabins, eat all your meals in the dining hall, and participate in great programs run by the camp staff. You can participate in activities like canoeing, climbing, swimming, arts and crafts, family games, evening campfires, and gazing at the billion stars.

2010 Highlights

Aqua Trampoline | Camp Icaghowan’s waterfront will get the addition of a 12-foot diameter floating trampoline to add to the fun while swimming.

Bouldering Wall | A new 60-foot long bouldering wall has been added next to the climbing tower. This “horizontal climbing tower” will give campers the opportunity to learn and practice some climbing moves close to the ground and challenge themselves to see how far they can get along the wall. The farther you go – the more challenging it gets. This will also help those campers not yet comfortable with climbing vertically.

Nature Center | The work on the new Nature Center is continuing and should be ready for this summer. The new nature programs will take advantage of Camp Icaghowan’s wonderful natural environment and get campers into the woods to study and explore. Field glasses, microscopes and stereoscopes will let campers look at their world up close.

Disc Golf Course Expanded | The new disc golf course was such a huge hit in 2009 that a special night disc golf course, with light up discs, will be added for older campers this summer.

Cabin Camping Overnights

Every cabin gets the chance to go on a camping overnight.* Each cabin picks their menu, packs their camping and personal gear, and either canoes or backpacks to their site.  Campsite Options include:

Pioneer Point | On the north end of Icaghowan’s island in a beautiful stand of red pines right on the edge of the lake.

Yurt Campsite | Overlooking Pine Bay, this 20ft diameter round platform tent has a clear plastic dome in its ceiling to watch the stars at night.

Tree House Campsite | This 600 square foot tree house is built in six sturdy oak trees on a ridge overlooking Lake Wapogasset. Campers will cook their meals and sleep in the trees.

Sunset Campsite | Along the ridge of the eastern shore of Pine Bay, this site gives a spectacular view of the sunset.

Sunrise Campsite | Nestled right along the shore of Turtle Bay in a stand of big pines.

Wigwam Campsite | A peaceful site at the edge of two differing ecosystems.

Lower Secret, Upper Secret, and Sucker Campsites | These remote secluded campsites on the far north and south ends of Lake Wapogasset are reserved for older camper cabins.

Technical Tree Climbing House | For older camper cabins, this cabin perched on the top of poles among the trees, requires climbing equipment and belayers to access. A very private campsite.
